What is a “Cookie”? What is “Local Storage”?

A cookie is a small amount of data that is stored on your computer by your web browser and sent back to our server on each page load. Similar data are stored in your web browser’s local storage and is provided to our server upon our request, but only after you’ve logged in. Throughout the rest of this document, the terms “cookie” and “cookies” will be use to apply to both cookies and local storage.

Why Do We Use Cookies?

We use cookies to associate connections between your web browser with your user account. In particular, we use a cookie to record information about your login session that is specific to our application. This allows us to provide you with the services that we only offer to logged-in members of our site. This is a required cookie; the site will not function properly without it.

We also use cookies to improve the site, both for your benefit and for ours. For example, cookies allow you to update and store preferences between logins. This includes remembering if you’ve accepted our cookie policy and which display preferences you’ve chosen.

We may use third-party service providers for certain services in the future, including authentication and analytics. These providers have their own data use polices, terms of use, and privacy policies. As we add third-party providers, we will identify them in this document and update the effective date at the top and bottom. You’re encouraged to check this policy from time to time, in case we’ve added any new service providers.

This policy is based upon our Privacy Policy. In the event of a disagreement between the two policies, the Privacy Policy shall prevail. You’re encouraged to check that policy from time to time for updates as well.

What Don’t We Do with Cookies

We don’t use cookies to intentionally track you, on or off the site. We don’t use cookies for marketing purposes, and we don’t sell any user data acquired from our cookies to anyone. (Moreover, we don’t sell any user data at all.)

What Happens If I Refuse Cookies

If you don’t accept our cookie policy, we won’t be able to associate your login with your user account, and you won’t be able to log in or use our services.
